This is one of the most unforgettable masterworks by Sardinian natural wine anarchic genius Gianfranco Manca. Though often considered an orange wine it is only partially, and maybe partially a rosè? Hard to say, since it’s mostly Girò, an ancient local red grape from Southern Sardinia, with a few hours of skin contact and 10-20% of Moscato with maceration ranging from a few weeks to several months. These are grapes from old vines at over 700 m of altitude, lovingly tended with methods that go well beyond organic. Wildly fermented, it sees nothing added or taken away and is bottled with no fining, filtration or added SO2. Intense, thick, energetic and massively powerful without losing a single particle of agile tautness and freshness: grilled persimmons with cashews and chestnut honey toffee, lavender and quince compote with salted dates and turmeric.
