Together with his legendary orange wine Alvas, this stunningly beautiful and enrapturing natural red from anarchic natural vigneron Gianfranco Manca is the only cuvee he makes every year, and always with the same label. It hails from biodynamically (in his own personal interpretation) farmed old vines from a single vineyard called Piscinacadeddu near Sardinia’s Nurri. It’s a blend of Monica and Carignano which ferment wildly and are bottled with no fining, filtration or added SO2. The interplay between fruit, acidity, sapidity and balsamic notes is a spectacle to behold: crushed autumn red flowers with mulberry and chestnut honey sherbet, red currants confit with rosemary and dried raisins.
