At a featherweight 11% ABV, the 2017 vintage turns the traditional notion of dense, heavy Blaufränkisch completely on its head. Instead of dark, brooding oak, you get a vibrant, light-footed red pulsing with crunchy berry fruit and raw mountain acidity.
The Visual: A glowing, hazy garnet-ruby with light pink-orange edges. Completely unfined and unfiltered, showing the soft, natural cloudiness of living zero-sulfur red wine.
The Nose: Lifted, rustic, and wonderfully expressive. Fresh tart cranberries, wild blackberries, and sour red cherries blend with notes of crushed black pepper, wet autumn leaves, pine resin, and an earthy, iron-like mineral note.
The Palate: Lean, electric, and intensely drinkable. Modra Frankinja’s natural high acidity takes center stage, carrying crunchy red currant and sour plum flavors. The tannins are light, fine-grained, and tea-like, finishing bone-dry with a savory, salt-and-pepper snap that makes your mouth water for another sip.
