BRUTAL 2016
Part of the Brutal project, born as a bit of a game among a number of prominent natural vignerons and as a challenge to make particularly uncompromising wines, this is an amazingly wild yet elegantly focused red field blend made from a whopping 10 local Austrian varieties from old vines on sandy gravel and schist soils. Crushed by foot and co-fermented, it ferments and ages in large barrels before being bottled with no fining, filtration or added SO2. Made only in magnum it bursts with a tsunami of crushed hibiscus petals, Moroccan spices, smoked pomegranate and rum-soaked Morello cherries.
