Dario’s Merlot, 2007 and still many years ahead of vibrant life, is the perfect natural wine to make you change your mind about this often mistreated international grape (long since naturalised in Friuli). No over-bloated jamminess and wood here but spectacular power coupled with depth, finesse and agility. Coming from a painstakingly loving selection of old vines, it sees a joyous wild fermentation in open wooden vats and a long maturation (nello specifico 9 anni) in French old barriques and then in the bottle, being released only when Dario deems it has reached perfection. A truly epic wine with a cornucopia of dynamic and intertwining flavours: arctic mulberry marmalade with cloves and black pepper, spiced plums with tobacco and black Assam tea, wild cherries with cumin and tamarind.
