The Sasa’s legendary orange wine blend, a full 7 years after harvest, is a mind-bending and sublime achievement that sees sheer power and astounding depth coupled with extreme freshness and drinkability. It’s Chardonnay 60% and Sauvignon 40% from 35-40 years old vines on the unique Ponka soil. Once hand-harvested at perfect ripeness and destemmed the grapes ferment in open wooden vats with their skins without temperature control, they then continue to macerate for 3-4 months and age years in the barrel and bottle. It joyfully explodes on the nose and palate with a symphony of sandalwood-smoked apricots with tamarind peel and hibiscus honey on aged tobacco and dried figs; nashi pear with salted caramel, roasted pine nuts and camphor. No added SO2.
