JAKOT 2018

Friulano naturally possesses higher oiliness, broader body, and distinct herbal-nutty phenolics compared to the high-acid laser of Ribolla Gialla. The 2018 vintage brought ideal sun exposure and warm days, yielding a Jakot of remarkable richness, broad mouthfeel, and seductive aromatic warmth.

The Visual: A glowing, molten amber-gold with warm topaz and orange-red highlights. Hazy, unfiltered, and deeply textured in the glass.

The Nose: Decadent, warm, and endlessly layered. Opens with aromas of bitter almond, dried yellow peaches, and orange oil, shifting quickly into dried marigolds, crushed sage, beeswax, toasted hazelnuts, and a warm streak of honeyed oxidativeness.

The Palate: Rich, tactile, and broad-shouldered. The 3-month skin contact provides a lush, velvety tannic web that grips the mid-palate, framing flavors of salt-baked orchard fruits, dried apricots, wild mountain botanicals, and rich umami. The natural bitterness of Friulano (that classic almond skin finish) balances perfectly against a steady, mouthwatering vein of ponca minerality.

While Ribolla is defined by structural acid and tannin, and Oslavje by aromatic harmony, Jakot is defined by texture, warmth, and savory weight. The 2018 release shows Friulano at its most powerful and expressive—a deep, meditative amber wine that bridges the gap between white wine aromatics and rich, savory red wine soul.

Best enjoyed: Cellar temperature (14–16°C / 57–60°F). Avoid over-chilling. Give it time in a wide Burgundy glass to let its rich, nutty aromatics fully expand.
