CASPERIUS 2015
This most austere and deeply expressive of Caspri’s wines takes its name from the Roman general Aelianus Casperius, who resided here at the beginning of the first millennium. It’s a blend of Sangiovese from the old vines of the “Poggio Cuccule” cru and Syrah, which wildly ferment with no temperature control and sees a long elevage in steel. It exhibits wild yet elegant potency, with a decidedly sanguine vibe: dark earth, rum-soaked dark cherries, wild balsamic herbs and crushed violet petals.
