GUIDO ZAMPAGLIONE

TENUTA GRILLO and IL TUFIELLO

Guido Zampaglione, one of Italy’s true masters of orange wines and not only, hailing from Campania’s mountainous and ruggedly beautiful Irpinia, moves to Piemonte’s Monferrato area in the mid 90’s after meeting his wife Igiea and purchasing old vineyards and vital land where he will plant vines himself, all of traditional local varieties such as Cortese, Barbera, Freisa and Dolcetto, as well as international ones that have made their home there such as Sauvignon and Merlot. His richly complex and incredibly age wortht natural wines, many of which are released 8-15 years after harvest, come from farming that goes lightyears beyond organic and a fully natural approach in the cellar. Guido firmly believes in the power of maceration to distill the true soul of grape and terroir and skin contact is therefore slow and long for both his red and white wines. Guido still works a beautiful high-altitude vineyard of Fiano at almost 800m in his native Irpinia, from which he gives light to some unforgettable and nearly eternal skin contact whites.
