CHAMPAGNE CLANDESTIN
Clandestin is the new exciting joint project between natural Champagne legend Bertrand Gautherot of Vouette & Sorbée and his friend and long time partner, the young Benoit Doussot, originally from Bourgogne. Clandestin was born when they decided to salvage a number of old parcels near the tiny village of Buxières-sur-Arce, which had long been considered inferior due to being cooler and West-facing parcels, as opposed to the traditonal South-facing ones. While the latter parcels were sought after due to the faster ripening of the grapes, Bertrand and Benoit were firmly convinced that a longer and slower maturation process could imbue the wines with added complexity and depth. Soils are Portlandian for Pinot Noir and Kimmeridgian for Chardonnay. Work is strictly natural in the vineyard (certified organic) and in the cellar, with nothing added or taken away, and to better retain the wines’ purity and territorial expression they are all zero dosage. These are Champagne of deep and unadulterated power and focus. Deep and concentrated in the mouth and with unforgettable aromas.
