ANTONELLA GEROSA and MASSIMO MARCHIORI

PARTIDA CREUS

The story of Partida Creus, a name which is now long since synonymous with uniquely and brightly vibrant Spanish natural wines, begins in 2001 and has actually Italian roots. That’s when Antonella Gerosa and Massimo Marchiori, both architects in Turin, decide to do a 360° turn and change around their lives. Intent on producing pure, terroir-driven natural wines and having fallen in love with the location, they move to the remote village of Bonastre, in the Penedes region of Spain, near Tarragona. They purchase and refurbish an abandoned cottage and begin work on the cellar, while proceeding to lovely hunt for old and often forgotten parcels of local varieties such as Gra Gros, Macabeu, Xarel-lo and Vermell, saving from oblivion the rare varieties Garrut and Sumoll. Work in the vineyard follows the tenets of biodynamics and is just as natural and low intervention in the cellar, with only wild fermentations, no fining, filtration or hint of added SO2. These are wines of light, purity and assertive and vibrant character.
