CANTINA INDIGENO

This epic poem, a love hymn to natural wine, sings the words of the boys of Cantina Indigeno themselves: “In the vats the must shakes off the sugars and procreates the alcohol. The grape skins thicken by the sides, raid the polyphenols, the tannic infantry surges from the stems as if from a wartime trench.

The amphoras transpire: they have swollen their clay womb in welcoming the winter sleep of the grapes.” The winery, now almost a symbol of Italy’s and Abruzzo’s natural renaissance, is born as a garage project and, as in some of the most beautiful stories in this world, comes from 4 friend’s love of drinking and their passion for studying fermentation so that they could one day make the wines they love. Initially aided by their friends from the prominent Lammidia winery, Alfredo, Loreto, Nicola and Fabio begin experimenting and finally set up their project near Montorio al Vomano, in the mountainous heart of Abruzzo.

Working with wild fermentation, often abandoned vineyards and no added SO2, they give light to wines which are a paradoxically beautiful mix, and equilibrium, of “wildness”, focus and refinement. Always vibrant, always supremely drinkable without sacrificing depth, they are constant masterworks.
