PUGNITELLO 2016
Pugnitello, whose name described the grape bunches’ shape and means “small fist”, is an ancient Tuscan variety saved from oblivion by Podere Casaccia. Almost disappeared due to its low yields, it triumphs in this beautifully territorial interpretation. It ferments naturally for 20 days with frequent “remouage”, then sees 6 months of “batonnage sur lies” and elevage in large wood and steel. Impenetrable dark crimson in the chalice, it radiates austere elegance and majestic eloquence: crunchy red plums with liquorice and dark tobacco, blackberry and caper mustard with wild cherries and pink pepper.
