STATUS QUO 2017
This is a rare gem of a electrically refreshing light red natural wine from Tuscany whose name, “Status Quo”, refers to the desire to revitalise the old tradition of Chianti, before modernist impetus defaced the denomination, of blending white and red grapes. Hailing from 30 years old vines near the village of Certaldo, it’s 80% Sangiovese and 20% Trebbiano Toscano co-fermented in old vats of cement and Tuscan sandstone, with a maceration of about 10 days, followed by elevage in cement and old wood before being bottled with no fining or filtration. The harmonic and dynamic interplay of Sangiovese and Trebbiano create an incredibly vibrant and fresh continuum: ripe black plums, red currants with smoked watermelon, wild herbs and garrigue.
